infant / toddler massage

Why infant massage?

Infant massage is a style of bodywork designed specifically to promote the healthy development of your infant.  Caring human touch is crucial for a healthy thriving baby.

Benefits for baby

The benefits of massaging a young child are many:

  • Promotes infant-parent attachment or “bonding”
  • Helps baby feel loved and relaxed
  • Promotes better sleep
  • Facilitates body awareness
  • Boosts immune system
  • Improves skin and blood circulation
  • Helps digestion
  • Balances respiration
  • Stimulates the senses
  • Helps waste elimination

It can even help with teething pains! Massage stimulates production of oxytocin, which is a hormone produced by both male and female persons during massage, which is useful as a pain reliever and has a calming effect.

Benefits for you

Parents report feeling more comfortable and confident with their ability to care for baby by practicing infant massage.

  • Learn how to understand and respond to baby’s cues
  • Discover techniques to comfort and soothe your little one
  • Gain an additional avenue for close and nurturing contact

Infant massage is one of the most natural and pleasant methods of nurturing your baby and an amazing tool for helping you feel closer to your child.

what to expect when attending an infant massage class:

Our classes are held once a week for four weeks. We do this to avoid overstimulating baby and to prevent you from experiencing information overload.

Each week we teach you a few different techniques and ask you to practice them at home. Then we will review the following week and teach you a few more, layering more on every week till you know the whole body.

So much of the class is massage, but a lot of it is also community-building with other parents. It  is usually a small size where parents can share experiences and learn from each other.

Class is baby led, meaning we follow baby’s lead. If she is sleeping you can practice the stokes on a doll. If he is hungry, you feed him. It is okay to cry at this class.

You can expect to learn massage, sing nursery rhymes, make friends, and have a wonderful, fun hour outside of your home with your new baby!
